Description
Cells spherical, colourless, c. 5 µm diameter, biflagellate. Flagella unequal, c. 15 µm long and c. 2 µm long (Leadbeater, 1972c). Cell body covered with 1 type of scale comprising a basal plate with a central funnel-shaped superstructure; basal plate circular, 0.6 µm diameter, without a thickened rim; funnel-shaped structure 0.6 µm high and c. 0.5 µm diameter at the open end.
Distribution
Southern Ocean, south of Australia; type locality, NW of Bergen, Norway (Leadbeater, 1972c); Baltic Sea (Vørs, 1992).
