Description

In vivo 100–200 × 45–75 µm. Body ellipsoidal to broadly fusiform, dorsoventrally flattened. Cirri: 3 frontal, 1 buccal, 2 frontoterminal, 7–14 transverse. Midventral row of 9–17 oblique cirral pairs extending to transverse cirri. Marginal cirral rows 1 right, 1 left, the latter obliquely bent at anterior end. Dorsal kineties 4 or 5. Adoral membranelles 22–43 (anteriorly, 4–18 membranelles slightly separate), posteriormost membranelle c. twice as long as adjacent ones. Macronuclear nodules (1–) 4; micronuclei 2–4. Contractile vacuole equatorial. Movement: crawling.

Distribution

Ross Sea, in the region 69.97°–73.60°S and 134.85°–165.03°W, in sea-ice and rarely in the plankton (Petz, unpublished data); Weddell Sea (Petz et al., 1995).
