Description

Lorica 120–200 × 65–120 µm, sac-like to flask-shaped, with a flattened swollen ring and a distinct constriction in the anterior part (neck), blue, green or brownish yellow to colourless; ampulla and part of neck lying; opening bent upwards, only indistinctly widened, with a bipartite closing membrane (lid or flap) between ampulla and neck. Trophont concolorous with the lorica; peristomial wings equal, distally pointed. Macronucleus 1. Epibiotic, e.g. on algae, bryozoans and molluscs.

Distribution

Weddell Sea (Ringuelet, 1957); South Atlantic (Ringuelet, 1955); North Atlantic (Dons, 1914); Arctic Ocean (Hadzi, 1951); widespread but in low abundance, possibly cosmopolitan.
