Description

Cells solitary, lanceolate in valve view, with rostrate ends; apical axis 30–40 µm; transapical axis 2–2.7 µm. Transapical striae straight, close-set, 44 in 10 µm. Fibulae 7–9 in 10 µm. Central nodule absent.

Distribution

Type locality, 69°43’S 06°30’E (Hustedt, 1958); Antarctic (Hasle & Medlin, 1990b).

Comments

Morphologically similar to N. acicularis, but rarely reported from southern waters.
