Description

Cells chain-forming, linear in valve view, with rounded apices, slightly expanded in girdle view; apical axis 63–126 µm; transapical axis 1.2–2.7 µm. Transapical striae broad, 17-21 in 10 µm. Interstrial membranes with 1 or 2 rows of minute poroids. Raphe keel eccentric; fibulae 10-13 in 10 µm. Central nodule present. [See Hasle (1965a) for a full description.]

Distribution

Coastal waters off Davis Station, East Antarctica; Antarctic (Hasle & Medlin, 1990a); Weddell-Scotia Confluence (Garrison et al., 1987); coastal waters off Syowa Station, East Antarctica (Ishikawa et al., 2001).

Comments

Pseudonitzschia turgiduloides is similar to P. delicatissima (Cleve) Heiden from the Arctic and the somewhat more fine-structured P. turgidula.
