Description

Cells solitary, discoid, narrowly rectangular in girdle view; pervalvar axis 8–25 µm. Valves flat, circular, 29–120 µm diameter. Areolation usually fasciculate; areolae 7–9 in 10 µm over valve face, c. 15 in 10 µm at the margin (Fig. b), loculate, opening externally via a foramen, internally via a cribrum (Fig. f). Strutted processes scattered evenly over valve face, resembling small areolae (usually not visible by LM), 3–4 in 10 µm, lacking internal and external tubes. Labiate process solitary, marginal (Fig. a, e, f), internal opening slit-like, with radial orientation. Chloroplasts small, numerous.
