Description

Cells chain-forming, drum-shaped in girdle view. Valves discoid, 23–71 µm diameter. Areolation fasciculate; areolae 8–12 in 10 µm in the valve centre, up to 14 in 10 µm near the margin. Strutted processes in a marginal ring of 2–4 in 10 µm and 1–several scattered over valve face (Figs 2.54b, 2.55b, f), operculate, with internal tubular extensions (Fig. 1e–g). Labiate process solitary, marginal, slightly raised (Fig. 1c). Valvocopulae with 1 row of large pores adjacent to valve (Fig. 2f). Copulae linking with valvocopulae by chambers (Figs 1f, g, 2d) and interlocking ligulae.

Distribution

Macquarie I. and Southern Ocean, south of Australia; type locality, Antarctic sector of the Indian Ocean, 46°04.7’S 49°19.0’E, “Marion Dufresene” MD-08, Station 63 (Johansen & Fryxell, 1985); South Atlantic, 51°29’S 0°08’E (Hustedt, 1958).
