Description

Cells uniflagellate. Silica skeleton to 70 µm diameter (distance between the tips of the longest spines), characterised by an outer silica ring c. 25 µm diameter, with 8 radiating skeletal elements protruding as spines, 2 spines usually slightly longer than the others, and a very delicate inner ring c. 18–24 µm diameter.

Distribution

Coastal waters near the Vestfold Hills, East Antarctica.

Comments

There is evidence of plasticity of skeletal configuration in this genus (van Valkenberg 1980, Hendricksen 1993).
